Pink Medium Nandi

Nandi, Reimagined: A Sacred Companion in Gond Art

In Indian tradition, Nandi is the devoted bull who rests at the feet of Shiva, eternally patient, eternally watchful. He is a symbol of strength, loyalty and quiet devotion. At Rumin Arts, we have given him a new canvas: a collection of hand-painted Nandi sculptures, each one a meeting of sacred form and living folk art.

Why Nandi?

Nandi has been sculpted in stone, bronze and clay for centuries. His calm posture, with folded legs and a gaze turned toward the divine, makes him one of the most recognisable and beloved figures in Indian art. Cast in FRP (fibre-reinforced plastic), our Nandis keep that serene grace while being light, durable and made to live in modern homes.

Then the artist's brush takes over, and each Nandi becomes something no factory could produce.

The Hand of the Gond Artist

Gond art comes from the Gond people of central India, who see every tree, bird and animal as alive with spirit. Its fine lines, dots and dashes give every surface a pulse. On our Nandis, that tradition meets the smooth curves of a sculpture, and the results are striking. Each piece is painted entirely by hand, so no two are ever identical.

Meet the Collection

The Blush Nandi. Soft pink, adorned with silver-toned ornaments and a bold spray of banana leaves in lush green. Fresh, graceful and unexpectedly modern.

The Golden Nandi. A burnished, antique-gold finish with richly detailed jewellery, brought to life by a kingfisher in flight and blooming pink lotuses. Pink and blue legs add a joyful, playful surprise.

The Midnight Nandi. Matte black and quietly dramatic, set with leaf and shell motifs in red, yellow and green, each filled with intricate Gond linework. It is the collection's most striking contrast.

The Marigold Nandi. Pure white with gold ornamentation and two radiant marigolds on its flanks. Auspicious, luminous and serene, it carries the spirit of festival days all year round.

More Than Décor

These are pieces for people who value craft, meaning and individuality. A Nandi makes a thoughtful gift for a housewarming, a wedding or a festival, and a lasting addition to a collector's shelf. Placed in a living room, a prayer space or an entrance, it brings calm, character and a touch of tradition.

Every purchase also helps sustain the artists and the Gond tradition itself, keeping a centuries-old art form vibrant for the generations ahead.
